In junior high and high school, I was the mix tape king. I can’t tell you how many bricks of cassette tapes I went through making mix tapes. As you can probably guess, most of them were for a girl or for pining over a girl. Even though I still have a record player and a dual cassette deck with which to make said mix tapes, blank tapes are a LITTLE hard to come by (although I saw some off-brands for sale this week at Walmart) and nobody really plays cassettes anymore. Those two facts have rendered mix tapes obsolete which, in my opinion is a little sad. Mix tapes, if done right, weren’t just a haphazard collection of songs. It was the order of the songs as well. The order conveyed a message, told a story. The cassette insert was a work of art, as well (at least mine were). These days, thanks to technology, the closest we can come to mix tapes are playlists. So, while I may not be able to create physical tapes and inserts, I’ll be creating Spotify mix tape playlists in honor of Valentines Day. Today’s version? The 80’s, of course. The rest of the week? A hair band playlist, a 90’s playlist, and then, on Valentine’s Day, a special playlist for my wife. 🙂
So, here we go! First up: Mix Tape, 80’s style…
