For music fans of a certain age, MTV Unplugged holds a special place in their hearts. With the first episode airing in 1989, the series has produced some of the most memorable live performances in history over the decades. No one can forget Nirvana’s set, recorded less than a year before Kurt Cobain tragically took his own life in 1994, or when Alice in Chains played one of its final shows with former lead vocalist Layne Staley. There are too many memorable episodes to count, and now you can watch more than 50 classic episodes, including the two mentioned above, on Paramount+.
If you do not currently subscribe to Paramount+, you can check it out at no cost, as they offer a 7-day free trial.
I don’t have any special memories of Unplugged, but reading this now gives me hope that maybe some of those old countdown shows I used to watch into the night back in the mid-’90s will get added, too.
Really, just reprogram the nightly schedule with all that you can squeeze in there, right down to Beavis & Butt-Head, MTV Oddities, and Kurt Loder reading the news, let me run it as it originally cycled, and that might just be enough to get me to subscribe!
