
Through the 1980s and 1990s there was a time of great innovation in technology that had a huge effect on children and teenager’s lives. Back in the day one of the most famous and popular gadgets was Tamagotchi, a small digital pet that required attention from its owner. Children would need to feed it and care for it, it taught children responsibility as well as time management. Tamagotchi was extremely popular, children would carry them in their pockets and exchange advice on how best to take care of it. It was a digital toy that conquered the world and is still considered a cult classic. Today its influence can be seen everywhere — from mobile games to interactive platforms. It has inspired many digital and mobile applications for children.
Game Boy – The Portable Revolution of Gaming
Back in 1989, Nintendo introduced the world to the Game Boy. This was the first mass produced portable gaming console of its time. It was possible to play this anywhere, at school, on a bus, even while you wait in a line in the supermarket. Almost every teenager wanted to own a Game Boy so they could play classic games like: Tetris, Pokemon and Super Mario. The Game Boy illustrated that video games could be mobile, accessible as well as social. Friends would exchange games, organize tournaments and it became its very own culture.

Some other popular innovations included the Giga Pets electronic toys, the Atari Lynx, a handheld console and later on mobile phones. The likes of the Game Boy and Tamagotchi are not only toys, they are symbols of an era that continues to have an impact on generations to come. And while today’s digital world includes everything from mobile apps to casino 18 years old platforms, these retro devices still stand out as timeless icons that shaped early interactive entertainment.
