Retro Pull List: May 2021

Hello fellow comic book lovers and adult children. It is time once again to take a look through every upcoming comic book for the month and cherry pick some of the best with a retro flavor. Classic characters, reboots, reprints, and more. These are the coolest retro comics even for people who don’t usually buy comics and you can find them in the Retro Pull List: May 2021 edition.

For digital purchases, visit ComiXology or ComiXology Unlimited. To purchase physical copies online, click on the comic book title below and visit our affiliate Things From Another World to purchase which will help out The Retro Network at no further expense to you. Here is the Retro Pull List May 2021 edition:

Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha #1 (Marvel)

What takes place in between Empire and Jedi? Boba Fett has Han Solo frozen and now must deliver him to Jabba’s Palace. But you know there’s still greed and double crosses in a galaxy far far away. Break out your old Kenner figures and go nuts with this new series featuring the coolest characters that didn’t get enough screen time.

Heroes Reborn #1 (Marvel)

What if the Avengers never formed? This alternate Marvel universe takes that small idea and through many books over the next couple months tells the story of this strange yet a bit familiar world. New characters like Dr Juggernaut, the Silver Witch, and Thanos with the ten infinity rings. For comic fans from the 90’s who loved the original Image inspired Heroes Reborn, welcome back for this merry Marvel mash up.

Fantastic Four: Life Story #1 (Marvel)

A 60th anniversary re-telling of the Fantastic Four’s origin. Cold War, gamma rays, and family. Did you see that Marvel preview this week? The Fantastic Four is coming to the big screen soon. There’s no better time to refresh yourself with the first family of Marvel Comics.

Zorro: New World #1 (American Mythology)

Show of hands, who here remembers watching Zorro on the Family Channel? Who remembers the Family Channel? I remember my uncle arranging his day around watching these adventures. Thirty years ago there was also a Marvel Comics series to tie in with the show. These comics haven’t been reprinted in 30 years, but will ride once again this month.

J. Werner Presents Classic Pulp: Ghosts #1 (Source Point Press)

Speaking of reprints. This series takes some of the best of the best spooky tales from yesteryear. A curated collection of bumps in the night and tingles down the page. Digitally remastered so the colors and quality jump scare just as much as when they were 10 cents each.

The Invincible Red Sonja #1 (Dynamite)

An all new Red Sonja series debuts, co-written by husband and wife team Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner. This team revitalized Harley Quinn and made her a new pillar of DC Comics stories and merchandise. Be on the ground floor as they make that same magic with chainmail and swords. (Also, I’m buying three different covers of this, so get in line behind me.)

That is certainly not everything coming out this month. Many of the series that have been mentioned in previous months continue with all new issues. There are also numerous brand new characters, graphic novels, and you can never go wrong with spending an hour or two digging for back issues. I’m spending way too much this month and I hope you find something worth spending a couple bucks on too.
