Retro Pull List: June 2021

Each and every month I go through the Previews catalog to pick out some of the best retro themed comics coming to your local store. There are hundreds of new issues out every month, but if you’re looking to jump in at the start of a new series featuring familiar characters, I have some great suggestions for you in the Retro Pull List: June 2021 Edition. Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters #1 (Marvel)

The hunt begins! Who would be fool enough to steal from Boba Fett? Fett crosses everyone’s path and all sides are gunning from him. This is the biggest crossover in Star Wars history, continuing on in five monthly titles through October. 

DF Static: Season One 1 (DC)

Remember the classic Static Shock TV show? From the glory days of Kids WB! its a crime that that show isn’t available on DVD. Static is the biggest star from the Milestone Universe and it’s time for him to be back out front. His electromagnetic powers are more than just levitating a trash can lid and having sparkly fingers. He could be the strongest hero in all of Dakota City and now that the bad guys have powers too, he might need to be.

Die!namite Lives #1 (Dynamite)

The icons published from Dynamite comics are all here for the craziest battle you’ve ever seen. Ash Williams and Vampirella along with Miss Fury and the Project Superpowers take on an alternate Evil Sonja and her army of deadites. 

Venom #35 200th Issue (Marvel)

This is the final chapter of Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman’s acclaimed run on the anti hero symbiote. Everything you thought you knew about Venom and Eddie Brock has grown and changed over their run. This landmark issue closes up that story and leaves giant shoes for Venom’s next creators. 

Space Pirate Captain Harlock #1 (Ablaze)

If you discovered anime by watching late night movies on the Sci-Fi channel chances are you’re familiar with the good Captain. From his own series to Galaxy Express 999 to points in space in between, his adventures continue. Captain Harlock and his crew are the only ones who know the other worldly enemy that threatens Earth. With their evil agents already in place and Harlock deemed a traitor, how can he save the planet when he’s not allowed on it? 

Batman: Reptilian #1 (DC)

From DC’s adult line, Black Label, comes this tale of a new monster stalking Gotham City. While Batman has faced many animal based villains in the past this new one is after those same villains. While Batman strikes fear into evil doers what sort of creature strikes that same fear in their nightmares? Find out this month from Garth Ennis and Liam Sharp.

Spawn’s Universe #1 (Image)

For the first time in Spawn’s decades long history it’s time to expand his universe. This one shot will introduce three new titles including Gunslinger Spawn and a team book. The world of this iconic early Image title has constantly changed over the years but nothing as big as this new era for Todd McFarlane’s creation. 

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Tea Time #1 (Boom)

What happens when Buffy’s mentor, Giles, becomes a vampire?! With his knowledge of Slayers could this be the final downfall for the Scooby Gang? Side note, Siya Oum is the artist for this book and you will be blown away by her work.
