Marvel Comics is bringing its classic Indiana Jones comics back into print this fall. The publisher announced two hardcover volumes collecting its 1980s releases, with both books arriving on September 30.
Indiana Jones: The Further Adventures Book I will include Marvel’s comic adaptations of Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, along with the first sixteen issues of the ongoing series that ran from 1982 to 1985. Book II will complete the run by reprinting the remaining issues of the thirty‑four‑part series and the adaptation of The Last Crusade.
The new editions feature leatherette binding, debossed covers, and ribbon bookmarks. Book I showcases work from Walt Simonson, David Michelinie, John Byrne, Dennis O’Neil, Archie Goodwin, John Buscema, Butch Guice, Ron Frenz, Howard Chaykin, Kerry Gammill, Dan Reed, Ricardo Villamonte, David Mazzucchelli, and Herb Trimpe. Book II includes contributions from Michelinie, Larry Lieber, Christopher Priest, Linda Grant, Ron Fortier, Luke McDonnell, Steve Ditko, Joe Brozowski, and Bret Blevins.
Marvel’s Indiana Jones comics have been out of print for years and unavailable digitally, largely due to the complicated rights history surrounding the franchise. Lucasfilm’s sale to Disney, Dark Horse’s loss of the license, and Paramount’s ownership of the first four films all contributed to the long absence of these books.
The last original Indiana Jones publishing projects arrived in 2009 following Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Marvel’s rerelease comes three years after Dial of Destiny and two years after the announcement of the upcoming video game The Great Circle, lining up neatly with the forty‑fifth anniversary of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
