Idris Elba is reportedly in early talks to play Man-at-Arms in the live-action feature film adaptation of the iconic Mattel franchise “Masters of the Universe”.
Elba would star alongside Nicholas Galitzine in the role of He-Man along with Camila Mendes as Teela, and Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn. The key role of Skeletor has yet to be cast.
The story centers on Price Adam of Eternia who, thanks to his Power Sword, turns into He-Man and is embued with superhuman strength and abilities, which he uses to defend his native planet and Castle Grayskull.
Plot specifics are under wraps. The property is best known for the iconic 1983 animated series which was previously adapted to the big screen in live-action form in 1987.
The new take on He-Man has long been in development and moved across various studios and streamers. “Masters of the Universe” is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on June 5th, 2026.
Sounds good, though — aside from skepticism that this will ever happen due to its time spent in development hell — I get the distinct impression that they aren’t even going to try to pass off Teela as Duncan’s daughter.
Unless they have Duncan retired already and Clamp Champ is the new Man-at-Arms, as in other continuities.
Either way, cool that he’s on board.
