There were so many great things that made the ’90s memorable and fun to grow up in. But since there were so many memorable things, we took them for granted, and rarely “stopped to smell the roses” and appreciate it all. So with that in mind, let’s take a little trip down memory lane and look at what a day in the life of a 90s kid was like.
YOU’D WAKE UP NONE TO EXCITED ABOUT THE PROSPECT OF GOING TO SCHOOL, BUT BEING FRIDAY, YOU KNEW THE SCHOOL DAY WOULD BE A LITTLE BETTER THAN NORMAL WITH SPECIAL CLASSES.
AFTER WAKING UP AND STRETCHING A BIT, TEETH HAD TO BE BRUSHED…
THEN YOU HAD TO GET DRESSED. NOTHING MAKES A BETTER STATEMENT THAN A BART SIMPSON T-SHIRT…
PAIRED WITH A COMFORTABLE PAIR OF TRIBAL PATTERN SHORTS…
PICK OUT A TRENDY SLAP BRACELET FOR ONE WRIST…
AND A WRIST-SIZED FANNY PACK FOR THE OTHER…
ADD ON A PEACE SIGN NECKLACE…
AND TOP IT ALL OFF WITH A PAIR OF SOLAR SHADES THAT CAME FROM PIZZA HUT…
GRAB SOME BREAKFAST BEFORE HEADING TO SCHOOL…MOM HAS A TOASTER STRUDEL HOT AND READY!
TIME TO HEAD OUT FOR SCHOOL. WAIT! DON’T FORGET THE LUNCH BOX…
AT SCHOOL THERE WAS ALWAYS SOME TIME IN HOMEROOM BEFORE CLASSES BEGAN. JUST ENOUGH TIME FOR A GAME OF POG WITH FRIENDS!
WHEN THE GAME WAS OVER, CLASS HAD STARTED, AND THE TEACHER WOULD ASK FOR HOMEWORK TO BE TURNED IN. IT WAS TIME TO BREAK OUT THE TRAPPER KEEPER!
AFTER SOME BORING PARTS OF CLASS, THE TEACHER WOULD HAND OUT WORKSHEETS, AND THE SMELL THAT FILLED THE ROOM COULD ONLY MEAN THAT THEY HAD BEEN RUN ON THE DIDDO MACHINE.
THE TEACHER HANDED OUT THE MONTH’S SCHOLASTIC ARROW BOOK CLUB ORDER FORM! TIME TO START GOING THROUGH IT AND CIRCLING STUFF!
THE DAY WOULD GO BY QUICKLY AND BEFORE YOU KNEW IT, IT WAS ALREADY TIME FOR LUNCH. AND WOULDN’T YOU KNOW IT, ITS PIZZA DAY IN THE CAFETERIA BUT YOU BROUGHT YOUR LUNCH.
WHAT WAS PACKED IN A TYPICAL LUNCHBOX?…LUNCHABLES, SHARK BITES FRUIT SNACKS, A TURTLES PUDDING PIE, AND A SQUEEZEIT!
AFTER LUNCH IT WAS TIME FOR MORE CLASS, BUT IT’S COMPUTER CLASS DAY SO THAT MEANT OREGON TRAIL!
BEFORE COMPUTER CLASS ENDED, SOMEONE HAD TO REFILL THE PAPER IN THE PRINTERS…
YOU’D GO TO THE LIBRARY TO CHECK OUT SOME BOOKS. HOPEFULLY, NOT ALL OF THE GOOSEBUMPS BOOKS WERE GONE…
THE LAST CLASS OF THE DAY WOULD ROLL AROUND AND IT WAS SCIENCE. BUT YOU WEREN’T HAVING ACTUAL CLASS TODAY, YOU WERE WATCHING BILL NYE!
THE SCHOOL DAY WOULD BE ALMOST OVER, BUT ONE LAST THING REMAINED…THE D.A.R.E. PRESENTATION…
YOU WOULD GET PICKED UP FROM SCHOOL, BUT SINCE IT WAS HOT OUT, THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE WOULD LEAVE A THIRD-DEGREE BURN…
YOU WOULD GET HOME FROM A HARD DAY AT SCHOOL AND GRAB A SNACK…
AND WATCH SOME CARTOONS TO UNWIND…
AFTER A SNACK AND SOME CARTOONS, IT WAS TIME TO FIRE UP THE SUPER NES TO LET OFF A LITTLE STEAM…
YOU’D CALL SOME FRIENDS TO SEE WHAT THEY HAD PLANNED FOR THE WEEKEND…
DAD WOULD BRING HOME A BIGFOOT PIZZA FROM PIZZA HUT FOR DINNER!
YOU’D CHECK THE TV GUIDE CHANNEL TO SEE WHAT WAS ON THE TUBE…
OH YEAH! IT’S FRIDAY NIGHT. THAT MEANS TGIF!
TGIF WAS ALWAYS BETTER WHEN PAIRED WITH A GOOD SNACK LIKE POP QWIZ POPCORN.
TGIF WOULD BE DONE FOR THE NIGHT, AND THE PARENTS WOULD BE GONE TO BED, MEANING IT WAS A GOOD TIME TO STAY UP LATE AND WATCH WHATEVER MOVIE WAS SHOWING ON USA UP ALL NIGHT!
IT WOULD BE LATE AND WAY PAST YOUR BEDTIME, BUT YOUR BROTHER WOULD GET IN FROM A NIGHT OUT WITH HIS FRIENDS AND SNEAK YOU IN A LATE-NIGHT SNACK!
IT WOULD BE REALLY LATE AND YOU’D BE TIRED BUT NOT WANTING FRIDAY TO END. BUT YOU’D COMFORT YOURSELF WITH THE THOUGHT THAT SATURDAY WAS COMING AND A TRIP TO THE MALL AWAITED YOU. BUT THE DETAILS OF THAT DAY WILL HAVE TO WAIT TILL ANOTHER TIME.

Sometimes referred to as the Retro Rambler...I was born in the '70s, grew up in the '80s, and came of age in the '90s. I love to share all the fun stuff from those years via my Retro Ramblings column.
The white shark was the best.
Very nice. I remember a good few of these.
