Men At Work are still holding down the top spot. After being in the top ten since November of 1982, “Mickey” by Toni Basil starts it’s quick descent back down the chart. The song was originally released in the UK in 1981 and went nowhere. It was re-released in early 1982 and reached #2 in the UK. After finally being released in the US in August of 1982, it hits #1 in mid-December. It’s Basil’s only Billboard success and the video is believed to be the first choreographed dance video.
The biggest mover on the chart? Michael Jackson and “Billie Jean” vault from #47 into the top 40 landing at #37. The biggest debut, however, is by Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton with “We’ve Got Tonight” debuting on the chart at #36. This week’s biggest drop is Laura Branigan’s “Gloria” that falls to #34 from #15 after peaking at #2.
Another one of my person 80’s favorites, “On The Loose” by Saga, moves into the top 40 at #39.
