The Season of the Witch is upon us! It’s the time of year when ghouls and goblins like to sit down and watch Halloween movies. While you can stream 100s of hours for the Peacock-tober event. Netflix is back with a new season of their original series, The Movies That Made Us.
The Movies That Made Us Season 1 hit the streaming service in November 2019 and featured four blockbuster movies; Die Hard, Dirty Dancing, Home Alone and Ghostbusters. Season 2 came out earlier this summer and highlighted four more blockbusters; Pretty Woman, Jurassic Park, Back to the Future and Forrest Gump.
In between those two season they released a 2-part Holiday season featuring Elf and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
The Movies That Made Us: Season 3 is hitting Netflix on 12 October and with a couple exceptions Season 3 is all about Halloween movies. It features the trifecta of Bogeymen; Freddy, Micheal and Jason with a dash of Aliens and a futuristic no-holds-barred cop. The real outlier in Season 3 is a comedy, albeit an excellent comedy.
Coming to America is the one movie that doesn’t fit into the horror mold of all the other movies this season. (An argument can be made RoboCop isn’t a horror movie either.) Maybe they were able to get the cast and crew together while filming the sequel, Coming 2 America and didn’t want to sit on it to long.
Coming to America is a great movie and one I’m looking forward to getting a glimpse behind the scenes. Coming to America and RoboCop will cover new ground. There hasn’t been a behind the scenes documentary on either of them.
The other four movies all have previous documentaries about the making of the movie. The A Nightmare on Elm Street documentary, Never Sleep Again, is four hours long! It’s a fantastic and thorough look at all aspects of the movie.
It will be interesting to see if The Movies That Made Us reveals any new information. Of course at four hours, Never Sleep Again isn’t for everyone. I watched it over three days. Having a tight one hour documentary will be fine for casual fans.
I hope they get a few of the big name stars for the series, James Cameron, Eddie Murphy Peter Weller and Jamie Lee Curtis are unlikely to appear. One of the things that makes The Movies That Made Us so good are the non-marquee producers and actors they interview. They don’t hold back, they tell it all, the good, the bad and the ugly.
I’ve always been a fan of Halloween Movies, whether they offer new details or present the information in a new way, I’ll be watching the entire series.
Netflix is also including Elf and The Nightmare Before Christmas in season 3 of The Movies That Made Us. Those two movies were featured in The Holiday Movies That Made Us which came out in December 2020.
Add The Movies That Made Us to your Netflix list and start streaming on 12 October. I know I will! When your done watching the series go back and re-watch your favorite Halloween movies. Let us know in the comments what movie you are looking forward to in the new season.
