1984 memories

Another sex comedy I watched on HBO. I’m fairly certain I watched them all on HBO, there’s no way my sisters would have renting any of them.

I don’t think I watch this one more than once. I recall it wasn’t as good as the others from 1984.

Let’s see how it holds up after forty years.

40th Anniversary Re-watch

It’s OK, nothing great and nothing worth watch again.

Four college coeds from the Northeast decide to head to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for spring break. Each girl is looking for something different, some want to find Mr. Right while others only want unbridled sex.

There’s not much more to the plot. The movie jumps from one spring break scene to another. There are some funny gags but nothing new or groundbreaking.

One of the girls, Jennie, is caught between a high society, pretentious, concert pianist and a ‘regular guy’ singer. The two men via for her love while trying to get the other one out of the way.

In the end it all works out for the girls, they find what they were looking for and everyone has happy ending.

Where the Boys Are ’84 is a loose remake of a 1960s movie of the same name. Which is why this movie gets the ‘84 added to the title. I’m guessing the ‘84 version has more T&A than the one from the 60s.

It seemed like this movie was caught between being true to the original movie and trying to be a fully fledged 80s sex comedy. The final product was neither and worse off. The writers should have picked one genre and stuck with it.

Favorite Line:

Looks more like Texas S & M

Overall Where the Boys Are ‘84 is an OK movie that’s worth watching. The acting was good, the plot was decent even if it doesn’t fully live up to the sex comedy genre.

Christopher McDonald has a small role in the movie. He’s been in over 200 movies and TV shows but to me he’ll always be Shooter McGavin. And as an complete non sequitur, Lisa Hartman’s blue eyes are stunning. She is also married to country superstar Clint Black.

Where the Boys Are ‘84 was released on 06 April 1984. It made just over $10.5 million on an unknown budget.
