The comic book column with an early Image shipping schedule! The month is almost over and one of these days I’m going to get ahead of the game. But that month is not this one!

Welcome to a look at some of the retro themed content coming to comic book shelves this month. Each and every month I go through the hundreds of pages in the new Previews catalog to find what’s new with a wink and a nod to yesterday. Your best bet is to stop in to your local comic book store and make some friends. Add these titles to your subscription list, buy right off the racks, or maybe find some other treasures not mentioned in this article.

Star Wars: Darth Vader #1 from Marvel Comics.

What happened to Vader right after The Empire Strikes Back? He finds out he has a son, offers him the galaxy, and the kid would rather cut off his own arm than hang out with his dad! It’s enough to make a father go searching for answers. Answers that take him to new corners of the Star Wars universe that fit seamlessly between the movies.

Young Justice #13 from DC Comics.

The teen heroes, but not the titanic ones, of the DCU meet a name you haven’t thought of in years. Warlord! That’s right. From the classic Mike Grell 1980’s comic books and the action figures that took a couple bucks away from He-Man.

Death to the Army of Darkness #1 from Dynamite.

Your boomstick slinging hero is six months removed from the events of Army of Darkness. All seems well until Deadite possessed people keep attacking Ash. What’s a guy to do but try a little magic help? Things go haywire and the result is Team Ash! Ash’s personality traits split into separate living breathing humans. Um, maybe living. Maybe human.
