I Know What You Did Last Summer Is Back!

When I heard about the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot I was less than excited. The original movie took the Halloween season of 1997 by storm, as did the sequel in 1998. But do we really need a reboot with a fresh batch of reckless teens?

After watching the trailer my answer is yes, yes we do!

Sony Pictures released the first trailer for I Know What You Did Last Summer, which isn’t a remake or reboot, it’s a continuation to the original story.

The one thing that sold me in the trailer is when Jennifer Love Hewitt showed up! I know Freddie Prinze Jr. is back too but I didn’t have a crush on him. Julie James (Hewitt) and Ray Bronson (Prinze Jr.) are both in the new movie which is being billed as a direct sequel to 1998’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.

It’s taking a page from the Scream franchise which billed the 2022 movie Scream as a sequel to 2011’s Scream 4.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) follows the same premise as the original, a group of friends cause a deadly car accident and vow to cover it up and never speak of it again.

One year later someone knows their secret and starts exacting revenge on them. As the friends are stalked by an unknown killer they discover it’s happened before and turn to the only survivors of the Southport Massacre of 1997, Julie and Ray.

There was a third movie, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer in 2006, released direct-to-video. In 2022 there was a short lived, 8-episode TV series on Amazon Prime. Thankfully both of those are getting over looked with this new movie. Neither were good.

Along with Hewitt and Prinze, Jr. I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) stars Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Gabbriette Bechtel, Lola Tung and Nicholas Alexander Chavez.

I hope the new I Know What You Did Last Summer sees the same success as Scream (2022) and expands the movie franchise. It opens in theaters on 18 July 2025.

Enjoy the trailer and let me know in the comments below if you are looking forward to the movie.
