Disney is dipping back into its animation vault again, and this time it has pulled out one of the most beloved heroes of early 90s television. Darkwing Duck is officially returning in a brand‑new series for Disney Plus, giving the caped crime‑fighter his first full revival in more than three decades.
The new series brings back Drake Mallard as Darkwing Duck, along with classic villains Negaduck and Megavolt. Fan favorites Launchpad, Gosalyn, and Morgana are also returning, but this time the stakes are much bigger. According to Disney’s official synopsis, Darkwing has spent the last 35 years trapped in an alternate world where no one remembers his heroic past. Everything changes when a rebellious teen named Duckie arrives to pull him back into action. Together, the unlikely duo will face familiar enemies and attempt to save the entire universe.

The voice cast is stacked with new talent. Mark Hamill will voice Drake Mallard and Darkwing Duck, with Seth Rogen as Launchpad McQuack, Lizzy Caplan as Gosalyn Mallard, and Lilimar as Duckie. The supporting cast includes Dan Stevens, Tiffany Shepis, Kathryn Newton, Teo Briones, Tyler Dean Flores, Katie Rich, and Nat Faxon. Original series creator Tad Stones consulted on the project and expressed excitement about seeing Darkwing return to the spotlight.
The announcement continues Disney’s trend of revisiting its classic animated catalog. Darkwing previously appeared in the 2017 DuckTales reboot, but this marks his first standalone series since the original show premiered in 1991. That series ran for 91 episodes across Disney Channel, ABC, and syndication, and later inspired video games and comic book stories. The original run is currently streaming on Disney Plus.
Disney has not yet announced a release date for the new series. For now, fans will have to wait for Darkwing Duck to step out of a cloud of blue smoke once again and declare that he is ready to get dangerous.
