3 Musketeers Adventure!
When it comes to candy bars, 3 Musketeers aren’t the most popular. I loved them as a kid, my kids eat them as a last resort. Not sure why, they are a good candy bar. Whipped chocolate mousse covered in delicious milk chocolate, what’s not to love.
Last Halloween when my kids were separating their candy, 3 Musketeers were the least represented. Tons of Hershey’s, Snickers, Milky Way, Kit Kat, Reese’s but very few 3 Musketeers.
The 3 Musketeers bar was introduced in 1932 by Mars, the same year they introduced the Mars bar. The Mars bar disappeared in the years 2000’s, 3 Musketeers is still going strong.
Fun Fact: The Mars Headquarters is located on Elm Street!
When the 3 Musketeers was first introduced it featured three smaller candy bars in one package each with a different flavor, chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. Which is why they called it 3 Musketeers. Once World War II hit and rationing put in place Mars phased out the strawberry and vanilla flavors for one big chocolate bar.
3 Musketeers cost five cents into the 1950’s and sponsored the Howdy Doody show. I prefer the commercials from the 1980’s, they always had a catchy song and showed off the iconic Red, White and Blue wrapper.
In the early 1990’s Mars changed the white wrapper to silver, which is what we see in the ads below. I’m not a fan of the silver wrapper but they didn’t ask me.
I rediscovered the 3 Musketeers Adventure! Ads during the Check Out Those Ads series of posts. After seeing the same couple ads but knowing they were in a series, I set out to find the entire series in my comic book collection.
After scouring hundreds of comic books I found them all! There are six ads in the series all featured below with the name of the comic I found them in. I don’t know why they only created six for the series. These would make good TV commercials too, or a short lived animated series.
For these ads they moved away from their namesake, the 3 Musketeers. The 3 Musketeers characters reappeared in commercials in the mid 1990’s.
Don’t forget to enjoy a delicious 3 Musketeers while looking at the ads below.
