Old School Evil: Our Darkest Hour is finally here, completing my series of urban fantasy novels. Inspired by the villains of 80s cartoons like Megatron, Skeletor, and Cobra Commander, Old School Evil features a world of cartoon heroes and villains like the Hurricanines and Muttants, the Defenders of Dino City and the Terrorsaurs, and the Ultra City Ultra Twins. Our main character, the lycanthropic Jayce, finds out there is a lot of weirder stuff out there than him—ghosts, dinosaurs, and robots used to threaten the world every week before he was born, and his father, Major Max Malic,e was the worst of them. Jayce assembles a team of Legacies—children of Max’s generation of villains — to thwart his father’s last attempt to rule to world.
The first book introduces the bad guys in Hidden Brook, the world’s only supervillain retirement home, and the children left in their wake. The sequel, Old School Evil: The Rejects, dives further into the Department of Domestic Threats and Balances, the federal agency that runs Hidden Brook, and the operatives who would rather kill the villains than imprison them.
Our Darkest Hour picks up after the destruction of both organizations, with a revitalized Max itching for revenge on Jayce. Max teams up with the telepath Dwayne, whose father Jayce killed in Hidden Brook, and his friend Natalie, who can control technology of any kind. Jayce’s team of Legacies exposes the last of the Department’s many secrets and faces off against the last of the previous generation of villains.
