It’s a new year and you know what that means! The House Show is back with Season 3 which will be focusing on the iconic WWF network TV series, Saturday Night’s Main Event.
This pilot episode for Saturday Night’s Main Event aired May 11, 1985. Mother’s Day! This was taped the night before at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, NY for 8,300 fans. This debut show takes place during the height of the Rock n’ Wrestling Connection.
There isn’t a backstage interview set. The camera angles are strange. Everything about this show is different. Which means your trios tag team champions are excited to watch the evolution of WWF into the television powerhouse they are today.
We discuss the Saturday Night’s Main Event schedule. Language use at 11:30 PM. Face turns. The work of the Fabulous Moolah. Jobbers that sell. Plus the show ends with a classic Mother’s Day celebration.
Tonight’s matches and segmetns include:
- Iron Shiek, Nikolai Volkoff, and George “the Animal” Steele (with Classy Freddie Blassie) vs Barry Windham, Mike Rotunda, and Ricky Steamboat (with Captain Lou Albano).
- Piper’s Pit with Roddy confronting Mr Wonderful Paul Orndorff.
- Hulk Hogan (WWF Champion) (with Mr T) vs Bob Orton (with Roddy Piper).
- Wendi Richter (WWF Ladies champion) (with Cyndi Lauper) vs the Fabulous Moolah.

The Retro Network’s own Kevin Decent (@MaskedLibrary) along with his two best friends “Sweet” Matty Treats (@MattyTreats) and Matt “the Educator of Excellence” began The House Show by reviewing WWF’s In Your House pay per view events over the course of the worldwide quarantine. Next, they covered all of the WCW Halloween Havoc events finishing out 2020. Now in 2020, they will be going back to WWF for all the Saturday Night’s Main Event shows. This trios team has been watching wrestling all their lives and debating the outcomes since high school. Invite them in your house each week for the main episode on Thursdays and The Run In on Mondays.
