Days of Thunder 2 is Coming in June 2028

Paramount Pictures has officially announced a new Days of Thunder sequel, with Tom Cruise returning to the role of NASCAR driver Cole Trickle and Anne Hathaway joining the cast as a team owner and engineer. Cruise and Hathaway revealed the project on August 29, along with Paramount’s confirmation.

Cruise will produce the film alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper, continuing the long‑running partnership that previously delivered Top Gun: Maverick. Jonathan Levine, known for Warm Bodies, 50/50, and Long Shot, will direct from a script by Will Staples.

The sequel is being filmed for IMAX and is scheduled to hit theaters on June 2, 2028.

Paramount also released a promotional photo of Cruise, 64, and Hathaway, 43, at Daytona International Speedway, leaning against a green racecar. Both stars shared a video announcement on their social media pages.

Released in 1990 and directed by Tony Scott, the original Days of Thunder starred Cruise, Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid, Michael Rooker, and Cary Elwes. The film also marked Nicole Kidman’s breakout role and her first on‑screen pairing with Cruise.

Cruise’s recent legacy sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, earned more than $1.5 billion worldwide and received a Best Picture nomination, strengthening Paramount’s ongoing collaboration with the star. Cruise also continues work on the Mission: Impossible franchise.
