We are less than three weeks away from the premiere of Alien: Earth, the first TV series in the Alien franchise, and the promotions are in high gear. The first Alien: Earth trailer was released in June, followed by a second trailer last week. There are also a slew of teasers giving us a chilling first look at the new show.
Alien: Earth is set in the year 2120, two years before the events of the original Alien (1979) movie. It doesn’t appear in-depth knowledge of the Alien franchise is needed to enjoy the new series. Although, you might want to know the basics of Alien to appreciate the real threat attacking Earth.
Alien: Earth synopsis:
When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat.
A short synopsis leaves more questions than answers, but a closer look at the Alien: Earth trailer suggests a shocking revelation. It appears the sinister Weyland-Yutani Corporation may have had a hand in, or even deliberately set in motion, the catastrophic events that befell the crew of the USCSS Nostromo in the original movie1979.
The last movie in the Alien franchise was Alien: Romulus (2024) which takes place between the events of Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986). It was a box office success and returned to the Sci-Fi/Horror roots of the Alien lore.

Alien: Earth stars Sydney Chandler (Sugar), Timothy Olyphant (Justified, Fargo), Alex Lawther (The Last Duel) and Samuel Blenkin (Pennyworth, Peaky Blinders). Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion) serves as the show runner, writer and will direct the first episode. The series is produced by Ridley Scott, the man behind the original Alien movie.
Alien: Earth premieres on FX and Hulu on 12 August 2025 with two episodes. All future episodes get a weekly release. Until then enjoy the Alien: Earth trailer and teasers.
