Peacock-tober Delivers Retro Halloween Movies

Halloween Movies Header

The Peacock streaming service is adding some Halloween flair to its name this year. For the month of October it is officially calling itself, Peacocktober. With the new Halloween inspired name comes 100s of hours of great Halloween movies and TV episodes.

Peacocktober has something for everyone. Big name horror franchises like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th and Childโ€™s Play to the classic monster movies of yesteryear.

There are also great stand alone horror movies like Wes Cravenโ€™s The People Under the Stairs and Clive Barkerโ€™s Nightbreed. Prom Night and Prom Night 2, Village of the Damned and one of my all time favorite werewolf movies, An American Werewolf in London.

They also add in a few Halloween themed TV episodes for a little more lighthearted Halloween fun.

Check out the movies below and prepare your Halloween list.

Halloween Movies A Nightrmare on Elm Street

A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise is my favorite horror movie franchise from the 80โ€™s. The first movie is fantastic. I would say the best movie in the series is part 3, Dream Warriors. The 2010 remake is on this list but should be avoided at all costs.

  • A Nightmare on Elm Street, 1984
  • A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddyโ€™s Revenge, 1985
  • A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors, 1987
  • A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, 1988
  • A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child, 1989
  • Freddyโ€™s Dead: The Final Nightmare, 1991
  • Freddy vs. Jason, 2003
  • A Nightmare on Elm Street, 2010
Child's Play

Iโ€™m not a big fan of horror movies that involve possessed dolls. I couldnโ€™t even watch the full trailer for Annabelleโ€ฆ But something about Chucky struck a cord with me and I enjoy these movies. If you donโ€™t know there is a new Childโ€™s Play TV series which premieres on 12 October.

  • Childโ€™s Play, 1988
  • Childโ€™s Play 2, 1990
  • Childโ€™s Play 3, 1991
  • Bride of Chucky, 1998
  • Seed of Chucky, 2004
  • Curse of Chucky, 2013
  • Cult of Chucky, 2017
Halloween Movies Friday the 13th

Welcome to Camp Crystal Lake.

I saw the first Friday the 13th as a young kid when my sisters rented the movie. It scared me to death. I like the iconography of Jason and the hockey mask. Iโ€™ve seen a few of them but not all. If I were to watch them again Iโ€™d stick to the original trilogy.

There are twelve movies in the franchise but Peacock only has eight of them available for Peacocktober. It’s to bad they couldn’t get a license for Friday the 13th: The Series too.

  • Friday the 13th, 1980
  • Friday the 13th โ€“ Part II, 1981
  • Friday the 13th โ€“ Part V: A New Beginning, 1985
  • Friday the 13th โ€“ Part VI: Jason Lives, 1986
  • Friday the 13th โ€“ Part VII: The New Blood, 1988
  • Friday the 13th โ€“ Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, 1989
  • Jason X, 2001
  • Freddy vs. Jason, 2003
Halloween Movies Leprechaun

Leprechaun is an acquired taste. The first one is a good horror movie and introduces the world to Jennifer Aniston. I stopped watching them when they went to space. Warwick Davis (Willow, Return of the Jedi) played the Leprechaun in six movies.

The 2014 reboot brought in WWE star Dylan Postl to play the Leprechaun. Iโ€™ve heard the reboot Leprechaun: Origins is a good movie and returns to its horror roots. I might give it a chance this Halloween season.

  • Leprechaun, 1993
  • Leprechaun II, 1994
  • Leprechaun III, 1995
  • Leprechaun 4: Lost in Space, 1997
  • Leprechaun V: In the Hood, 2000
  • Leprechaun VI: Back 2 the Hood, 2003
  • Leprechaun: Origins, 2014
Halloween Movies Phantasm

I donโ€™t remember when I saw Phantasm for the first time, but I do remember I was completely enthralled. The bigger-than-life presence of The Tall Man, the trip-y 70โ€™s imagery and that crazy flying ball of death. Phantasm has it all.

The original movie is worth watching if you missed it back in the day. Angus Scrimm who played The Tall Man in all the movies passed away in 2016, shortly after the release of the final movie.

  • Phantasm, 1979
  • Phantasm II, 1988
  • Phantasm III, 1994
  • Phantasm IV: Oblivion, 1998
  • Phantasm: Ravager, 2016
Halloween Movies Psycho

The original Psycho isnโ€™t streaming on Peacock. You can find it over on FuboTV. Hitchcock is a master storyteller and Psycho is one of his best.

  • Psycho II, 1983
  • Psycho III, 1986
  • Psycho, 1988 (shot-for-shot remake of the original movie)
  • Psycho IV: The Beginning, 1990
  • The Making of Psycho, 1997
  • Bates Motel S1-5, 2013 (not retro, but decent prequel series to the original film)
Halloween Movies Elvira

Whatโ€™s not to love about Elvira? Sheโ€™s campy, doesnโ€™t take herself too seriously and is entertaining. Elvira was a big name in the 1980โ€™s and it all started with Elviraโ€™s Movie Macabre.

In Elviraโ€™s Movie Macabre, Elvira would feature B Movies, usually horror themed but sometimes science fiction. She would offer commentary and jokes during the movie and sometimes take calls from The Breather. In the late 80โ€™s Mystery Science Theater 3000 used the same concept for Science Fiction B Movies.

Elviraโ€™s Movie Macabre ran for five season (1981-1986) and over 120 episodes. Of all those seasons and episodes Peacock has eleven available from season 1. Must be a licensing issue. Enjoy the ones listed below.

  • Elviraโ€™s Movie Macabre: Maneater of Hydra, 1967
  • Elviraโ€™s Movie Macabre: They Came from Beyond Space, 1967
  • Elviraโ€™s Movie Macabre: The House That Screamed, 1969
  • Elviraโ€™s Movie Macabre: The Doomsday Machine, 1972
  • Elviraโ€™s Movie Macabre: The Werewolf of Washington, 1973
  • Elviraโ€™s Movie Macabre: Frankensteinโ€™s Castle of Freaks, 1974
  • Elviraโ€™s Movie Macabre: Legacy of Blood, 1978
  • Elviraโ€™s Movie Macabre: Gamera, Super Monster, 1980
  • Elviraโ€™s Movie Macabre: Monstroid, 1980
  • Elviraโ€™s Movie Macabre: Count Draculaโ€™s Great Love, 1981
  • Elviraโ€™s Movie Macabre: The Devilโ€™s Wedding Night, 1981
