There is nothing better to do on a hot summer day than sit outside with an ice cold drink and a stack of comics. Thankfully, there are loads of brand new issues each and every week for readers of all ages. As this column does every month, here is a look at some of the new titles with a retro theme. These are far, far from the only comics coming out. Check with your local comic book store, or with the many shops online, for these comics and so much more.

Justice League Infinity #1 (DC Comics)
A continuation of Justice League Unlimited. One of the greatest cartoons of all time and an amazing showcase of DC’s rich pantheon of heroes. This series begins with the core group, but anyone can show up at any time. The animated series earned the Unlimited label, and I’m sure this one will be beyond infinite.
Masters of the Universe: Revelation #1 (Dark Horse Comics)
Soon to debut on Netflix, the toys are showing up in stores, and the comic is now here. This brand new Kevin Smith produced series is a continuation of the He-Man series we grew up with. The cartoon will be jarring at first, how did our familiar heroes and villains get to this point? Thankfully this limited series will tell the prequel story for season one.
Red Sonja: Black, White, Red #1 (Dynamite)
The black, white, and red trend continues with a character who more than exemplifies those colors. Pure black and white of the original art. Add to that splashes of red whether from Sonja’s own hair, or from her own sword. A series sure to make violence something beautiful.
Aliens: Aftermath #1 (Marvel)
To celebrate the 35th anniversary, a return to Hadley’s Hope. What really happened at the site of 1986’s Aliens? A group of journalists take flight to discover the answers, unaware that the galaxy’s greatest threat is there waiting for them.
Barbarella #1 (Dynamite)
While most fans only know of Barbarella from the 1968 film starring Jane Fonda, she debuted in a French comic years earlier. Now Barbarella’s adventures come back to her comic book roots. The best writer, the best artists, and no restraints. This is going to be the sex, spies, and space epic for the ages.
Groo Meets Tarzan #1 (Dark Horse Comics)
Two titanic warriors finally meet! The comedic warrior stumbles his way into the Lord of Greystoke’s path. Groo’s customs will no doubt be confusing. Tarzan may find Groo to be a bumbling annoyance, but I have a feeling at the end of this series there will be some sort of friendship and respect. Or, more likely, relief that Groo is now moving on to ignorantly destroy someone else’s life.
That is the Retro Pull List for July 2021. Be sure to share the comics you’re most excited about with friends, family, co-workers, and of course right here on The Retro Network.
